Do you carry name brand glasses (i.e. Ray Ban, Oakley, Prada, Gucci, etc.)?
A common question we get is if we carry a specific brand of eyewear (insert Ray Ban, Oakley, Prada, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, etc.) The answer to this is we don't carry products from these brands as well as a lot of other name brand designers, but before you stop reading let me tell you a little bit about why we choose to carry other brands from companies that may not be as well known.
The brands I mentioned above as well as many other "name brand" frames are not truly owned by Prada, Gucci, etc., many of these are owned by a handful of companies that are somewhat monopolistic in the eyewear world. You may have heard in the news of a company called Luxottica, this is the most popular and owns many of the most popular brands across the world including Ray Ban, Oakley, Prada, Versace, and many others. The problem with this is you are not actually paying for eyewear designed by the designers who create the clothes, purses, and shoes that are so well known worldwide. Luxottica pays a licensing fee to use the brand's logo and name on eyewear they design themselves. While some of these styles are good, we find the vast majority are comparable in style and quality to frames that cost much less.
We have carried many of these brands in the past and others from companies like Luxottica, Safilo, Marchon, and Marcolin. But in the last five years we have moved away from these companies to begin carrying glasses from brands that are independent. Independent companies employ designers that have a background in eyewear, they are able to control the quality, styles, and materials much better than large companies that use styles that other brands and designers have already come up with.
So straight and to the point, we do not carry many of these brands because we don't believe the price you pay is worth it and if you want to spend the money we'd rather show you something unique and made of higher quality materials from one of our independent brands that will last much longer than many of the "name brand" styles.
